DRUG AWARENESS COURSE

What is the Drug Awareness Course?

A 6-hour class that meets court-ordered requirements. This is not a group course. Our drug awareness course is offered one-on-one via tele-health or in person. This course is offered for adults and adolescents.

Topics covered:

  • The principles of drugs

  • Downers/uppers

  • The brain on drugs

  • Alcohol, opiates, and sedatives

  • Actions and consequences

  • Marijuana

  • Emotional Intelligence- coping with our emotions with drugs


Course Fee

$120, Fee is non-refundable.

The course fee must be paid by the last class. Currently we only accept payment through credit card or check. Payments can be made online or by phone.


FAQs

When Is the Next Available Course?

Courses are scheduled on an as-needed basis, determined by the availability of the instructor and the student. The six hours can be completed over a span of one or five weeks dependent on student request.

Options include:

  • 3 days, 2 hours each day, in one week

  • 2 days, 3 hours each day, in one week

  • 5 days, 1 hour each day, across 5 weeks

The instructor is flexible and willing to work with your schedule to complete the course. Other scheduling options may be available if needed.

How do I enroll?

Email Lorjon at lorjon@counselingplace.org or call 469-872-1211 to register for the course.

Remember, we must have at least 3 students enrolled to hold the course and no more than 18, so registration is required before you attend.


What else do I need to know?

Arrive a few minutes early! The Counseling Place is in an office suite inside the Richardson Medical Park building. The doors to the building lock in the evenings. If you are late to class, you will not be able to enter the building, and you will not be able to attend the class. We will not refund your money if you’re late or miss a class.

You can bring water but no other snacks or drinks.

If you miss a class, your case may be returned to the court, and you will be required to appear before a judge.


Who tells the court I’ve completed the course?

You do. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate. You’ll provide that to the court. If you lose your certificate, we charge $25 for the replacement.
