COUNSELING
Why Would I See a Therapist?
Professional counseling is an invaluable tool for maintaining emotional health and positive relationships. Just as you might hire a mechanic to fix your car or an accountant to do your taxes, you can see a counselor to help you give your emotional intelligence level a boost, identify your strengths, recognize unhealthy patterns, heal old or fresh wounds, and navigate successfully through some of life’s struggles.
Plus, life is stressful and filled with surprises. Our nervous system can respond to positive events, like a marriage or job promotion, the same way it responds to negative ones. The Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory puts life events into perspective. A quick glance might explain why you or someone you love is feeling more stressed than normal.
Talking to an objective professional, rather than a friend or family member, can have tremendous benefits. If you’re open to honest dialog and some self-reflection, you can have some life-changing “light bulb” moments.
